AAIP Made Some Tweaking On Its Express Entry Category. What is the impact to applicants?

On January 18, 2023, the Alberta Government made some changes to it's Express Entry category of the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP). Prior to this change, AAIP has been sending Notifications of Interest to invite Express Entry Applicants with as low as 300 CRS score.

But now, the Government will be focusing more on the Primary Occupation and the family connection in Alberta.

Is this a good or bad thing? It depends on who you are going to ask. If You have a family connection in Alberta and your primary occupation falls under high demand, then you will benefit from this because you will be prioritized. Otherwise, it will be a disadvantage. But, if you fall under the latter, do not get nervous yet because you might be able to qualify under other PR Pathways like the Alberta Opportunity Stream.

Back in the days, the Alberta Nominee Program has a stream wherein you can nominate a family member to come to Canada as a Permanent Resident. I wish that this change to the Express Entry category would bring similar nomination stream. Because, if an immigrant already has a family member in Canada and his or her work experience is in demand, it would help this immigrant to be able to succeed and be economically established because they already have a family member to support them and at the same time, since the occupation is in demand, he is not going to have any difficulties finding a job.

So what do you think? Do you like this new selection factors in placed? Would it be better to have a separate stream focusing on those two factors? Share your comments below.
